Special Issue #3: American Indigenous Languages

In the border zone between Mexico and the United States there exists a multiplicity of nations and cultures, many of them with histories dating prior to the first European invasions and, many others, that have immigrated to the area in recent times. Because of these rich contributions to the cultural diversity of the border, the editors at Latin@ Literatures, A Cultural and Literary Journal, have decided to publish an exclusive issue dedicated to exploring the linguistically non-hegemonic cultural production of the area. In this manner:
- Anyone may participate who is born or is currently living in a contiguous border state between Mexico and the United States and whose creative writing or expression is in an American Indigenous language.
- Anyone may participate who has lived or is currently living in the United States and whose creative language is an Indigenous language from Mexico, Central America, or South America. If the author no longer resides in the United States or in the border zone between Mexico and the United States, the work must refer to the experience of living in such areas.
- Unpublished and previously published works may be submitted. All previously published work must have written permission from the copyright holder for re-publication in Latin@ Literatures and be exempt from penalties. Submissions are open theme, (except in the case previously mentioned above), and may be submitted in any literary or artistic genre (poetry, short story, essay, testimonial, short video, audio recording, sculpture, photography, etc.). All plastic art must be submitted in photographic or video representations.
- Except in the case of plastic art submissions, all works submitted in an American Indigenous language must be accompanied by a translation into either English or Spanish (or both).
- The submission window is now open until February 28, 2022.
- All submissions should be sent electronically and e-mailed to: info@latinoliteratures.org. All submission e-mails must include a heading with the name of the author and the genre of the work, i.e. (John Doe-ShortStory). In the case your file(s) is/are too big to be sent via e-mail, please have the appropriate links included in the e-mail for proper review of your materials.
- All submissions must include a title page with the author’s name, brief biographical information, and current e-mail address.
- All authors may submit a maximum of three (3) representative works, and every work must be accompanied by a title page.
- All authors and artists retain copyright and may reprint or republish with appropriate acknowledgement of its publication in Latin@ Literatures. Latin@ Literatures retains copyrights of all issues, the website, and its contents as a whole. No work may be reproduced without the author’s expressed written consent. Edición Especial #3: Las lenguas originarias americanas

La zona fronteriza entre México y Estados Unidos incluye a una multiplicidad de naciones y culturas, muchas de ellas con una historia anterior a la llegada de los primeros invasores europeos y, otras tantas, que han inmigrado a la zona en tiempos más recientes. Dada la rica y diversa contribución cultural de la zona, Latin@ Literatures, A Cultural and Literary Journal, ha decidido publicar un número exclusivo dedicado a la producción cultural que se genera más allá de las dos lenguas hegemónicas del área, así:
- Podrán participar todas las personas que vivan o hayan nacido en los estados fronterizos de México y Estados Unidos y cuya lengua de creación sea una lengua originaria americana.
- También podrán participar todas las personas que vivan o hayan vivido en cualquier lugar de los EE.UU. y cuya lengua de creación sea una lengua originaria de México, Centroamérica o Sudamérica. En el caso de ya no vivir en los EE.UU. ni en la zona fronteriza, el producto cultural participante tendrá que referir a la experiencia de vivir en esa zona.
- Se puede participar con obras, inéditas o ya publicadas. Para toda obra previamente publicada, deberá presentarse por escrito un documento que indique el préstamo de la obra para ser publicada por Latin@ Literatures sin repercución de cargos de copyright. El tema es libre (salvo en el caso arriba mencionado), de cualquier género literario (poesía, cuento, ensayo, testimonio, cortometraje, grabación de audio, obra plástica reproducida en fotografía o video, etc.).
- Salvo en el caso de obra plástica, todas las obras participantes tendrán que ser enviadas en el idioma original más una traducción al español o al inglés.
- La recepción de obras queda abierta a partir de la publicación de esta convocatoria y hasta el 28 de febrero de 2022.
- Las obras tendrán que ser enviadas al correo electrónico: info@latinoliteratures.org. En el asunto del mensaje anotar: “Nombre del autor” + “género o tipo de obra.” Si el archivo de envío es más grande de lo permitido, favor de incluir enlaces a las obras correspondientes.
- Incluir una página titular con los siguientes datos en el documento de la obra: nombre artístico, semblanza breve, correo electrónico.
- Cada participante podrá enviar hasta un máximo de 3 obras, cada una con página titular.
- Las obras seleccionadas se publicarán bajo un esquema de cesión de derechos gratuita y no exclusiva. Es decir, los participantes mantienen los derechos de su obra para volverla a publicar donde gusten y como gusten y sólo ceden gratuitamente los derechos para que Latin@ Literatures las publique. - Los casos no previstos en la presente convocatoria serán resueltos por el comité editorial de Latin@ Literatures.
